Summer Fun

Geez, we sure have been busy little beavers the last few weeks. Let me see if I can recollect what has been happening....

Right after the kids skinny dipped for the first time, Katie lost her second tooth. She is a bleeder. I don't recall Mary bleeding as much as Katie did when she lost any of her teeth. The tooth fairy revisited our house and I believe a dollar was left.

(At the time of this writing, Bobby has not lost a single tooth and it is driving him MAD. I keep telling him, he has got to stop sucking his thumb so much, but alas, the thumb goes in the mouth...with his blanket in the other hand...the new Linus).

Soon after that, my nephew arrived in town (to play for the San Diego Padres rookie league) and I took him to pick up the kids at camp. Camp, or recreation for some of you, is a place where I could drop the kids off for free and they would play with other kids. They did crafts, played games and just hung out. The kids went there a couple of days, but in general, they would rather hang on me. Sooooo, we picked them up early with Brad being a surprise to them. Well, when I went inside the gym to get them, I come to find out that the A/C was out. Kids were laying on the floor and fanning themselves with white paper plates. My kids were red faced and just about to break out in profusely sweating mode. As soon as we walk out the door, Bobby says "I want to go to NJ now!" (I figured out last year that my boy is NOT a kid who enjoys hot weather or being hot in general. I think he will be bolting outta AZ as soon as the law allows.)
Hours later, I was having Bunco night at my house, so I told everyone, Brad included, that they needed to leave my house. As they were preparing to leave, Katie starts crying that she has a headache. Whenever someone in my house says 'I have a headache', my answer is 'How much water have you drank today?'. Of course, she keeps on crying cause she knows she hasn't drank very much, even though I am on them all day to drink water. She drinks water and continues to cry over it. At this point, I would have a Bunco guest come in any minute, so dumbly (a new word) I give her some medicine for her headache. She stops crying for a minute than starts again, cause she still has a headache. So, to make a long story a little shorter, everyone gets in the van and they all go out for the evening. My guests start arriving moments after they leave. Ten minutes later, Bob calls, Katie threw up all over herself in the van. When she arrived back at the house, she was in good spirits. She changed her clothes and watched TV whilst Bunco happened. I say that it was a fortunate series of events because not only did Katie learn her lesson about keeping hydrated, but our new resident to AZ (Brad) learned that lesson as well.

Brad's number is lucky #13. Go mini-Padres!)

The following weekend, we took our first family camping trip. For yeeeeears, my friends have been urging us to go but for yeeeeears we have denied them our company because, let's face it, we are city folks. We borrowed just about everything to camp out with. Thankfully, our friends have all the things to make camping comfortable. Things like a tent, port a potty and air mattresses sure do make camping more enjoyable.
The kids LOVED camping. They loved being able to get dirty and stay dirty. They loved being able to walk away from camp and do their adventuring with the campsite in their sight. They loved being in constant play mode with their life long friends. They loved roasting marsh mellows and making them into s'mores. Aside from the bug bites, Bob and I enjoyed camping too. It was like a mini vacation from chores and rules. Ahhhhh!

Last week, we went to see Barnum & Baily and someone else's Greatest Show on Earth. Let me tell you friends, it lives up to it's name. I wasn't expecting much but some clowns, tigers and trapeze performers. When we got there, you could just feel the energy in the place. Then the show started and it was like a Broadway show, mixed with Cirque du Soleil, mixed with Animal Kingdom and mixed with the X games. It was totally cool! Here is the website so you can check to see when the circus comes to town: http://www.ringling.com/.

This weekend ,the stars and planets aligned and we were surprised with a visit from Aunt Mary and Uncle Mike. The doorbell rang on Saturday morning and low and behold, there they stood on our doorstep. What a great surprise! So we will be leaving to go to NJ to visit them on Wednesday and they will be here on our turf until Saturday. Strange, strange turn of events. So far we have enjoyed their visit and we are looking forward to any time we can spend with them whether it be here or there!

That takes care of June. Boy, did it whizzzzz by. We are hoping to slow things down on our vacation. I want my kids to enjoy the rest of the lazy days of summer.
