The Holiday Season 2008

This year's holiday season was a short one yet full of wonderful memories.

Right after Thanksgiving, Bob and I celebrated 11 years of holy matrimony. We got a babysitter and went out to dinner and a movie. It was nice. During this time of November, I signed on as an independent consultant to this home party plan called "A Taste of Home Entertaining". I never thought that I would do something like this after doing Pampered Chef, but something called to me for over a year, so when I saw the golden opportunity was on sale, I took it. Business has been slow but I am sure if I keep chipping at it, it will soon come around. (Here is my website if you want to take a look see..www.entertainingwithSueD.tohe.com)

Katie was finally able to get in with a Daisy (mini girl scouts) group at a friend's school. She is super excited to be a Daisy and for the opportunity to sell Girl Scout cookies (sales start Jan 5!-order yours today!). I think she will learn a lot through the group about the things that she is interested in.

Bobby took part in a baseball training camp sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks. They learned how to play like the big leaguers play. He had a lot of fun and wants to continue with baseball, but he also wants to play football and soccer. I guess he is a typical little boy. Momma's boy. He is not only Momma's boy, but also Ms. Flynn's boy. Ms. Flynn is Bobby's teacher and after Bobby missed two days of special festivities (the holiday party and PJ day) due to strep throat, she made special arrangements for him. First, she invited him to a special lunchtime pizza party with just her and one of his friends. Then she got him invited to Katie's classroom's holiday party! She spoils her students so much, but she is a brillant teacher. Here is a picture of Katie, Bobby and I at her Christmas party:

Mid December, Mary, Katie and I went to see the Nutcraker ballet at Phoenix Symphony hall. We got dressed to the nines and went to dinner before the show. A girls' night out on the town! I love watching my children's faces when they see something like this. Their eyes get so big, they take so much in. Katie warmed my heart when she was clapping after a ballerina was done doing her dance. She looked back at me and she had the biggest smile on her face while she was clapping. Pure joy. Mary intensely watched the ballet. I could tell she was getting taken away, becoming a part in the scene, dancing with the Sugar Plum Fairy. It was a great night and I think it may become an annual event for us girls.

The very next morning, we woke the kids up and surprised them with a trip to Disneyland. We spent three days in Anaheim. We had a real nice time. It seems that it gets better and better everytime we go. There is an advantage to the kids getting bigger, they can handle the Disneyland march a lot better. I am tired just thinking about it! We even managed to catch up with Santa Claus and sit on his lap (Flat Stanley too!).

We got back a few days before Christmas to make final preparations for the big day. Then Christmas came and went like it always does. We had a wonderful time and received lots of great gifts. We had a fun New Year's Eve with new friends and now we look forward to getting back to our regular schedule (I'll speak for myself here!).

We hope the year to come brings lots of changes that breed lots of new insights for us all. We look ahead to the challenges for the coming year, good or bad. Let's face it, what doesn't kill us, truly does make us stronger. I firmly believe that. Welcome 2009.
